Who's it for? This is the Port Renfrew tour for those looking to see big trees, beaches, and waterfalls!
What you'll see: The Avatar Grove, San Juan Spruce, Fairy Lake, Sombrio Beach, & more!
Tour Description: Our day starts with a 1-2 hour visit at the Avatar Grove, an incredible stand of monumental ancient redcedar and Douglas-fir trees that was discovered in 2010 by your tour guide, TJ Watt. Many of the unique trees in this area are covered in giant burls, including “Canada’s Gnarliest Tree”, a huge redcedar with a 12ft (3m) wide burl growing out of its side! After Avatar, we'll head into the San Juan Valley, stopping to watch for wildlife in the estuary and to see the unique 'bonsai tree' at Fairy Lake. Next up is the San Juan Spruce, one of Canada's largest Sitka spruce trees, growing at the edge of the San Juan River. Then we're off to beautiful Sombrio Beach, where we'll sit to eat lunch and listen the sound of the ocean waves. Stroll along the beach and check out tidepools and wildlife along the way, then visit an incredible waterfall hidden at the end!
